As a biological concept, an adult animal or human is a person who has grown. For humans, the term adult has meanings associated with social and legal concepts. In contrast to a non-adult or "minor", a legal adult is a person who has attained the age of majority, and therefore is considered to be independent, self-sufficient, and responsible. A legal adult can be described as a major. The point at which a person becomes an adult legally is 18; however, the definition of legal maturity may differ based on the country or legal system as well as their psychological state.

Human development is the time in which full mental and physical maturity is attained. Adulthood, as typically understood, is at the age of either 20 or 21. The age of old is 60 years later than middle the age of 60. Adulthood is divided into three phases: the early years of adulthood (18-mid-30s), mid-30s-mid-60s, and the final stage of adulthood, mid-60s to death. When we enter early adulthood (20 to early 40s) our physical growth is complete, although our height and weight may increase slightly. As we enter our early twenties, our physical abilities reach their maximum. This includes muscle strength as well as reaction speed.
